How to change the Password on your router?

To change the password on your router you will need to login to the router. Each router manufacture will have different ways to connect to the Web Admin interface for your specific, here are the common method to connect. These are general instructions for how to update or even set a password on your router. If these instructions do not work please search Google for specific instruction from your router manufacture and model.

• Open your favorite web browser
• Depending your router manufacture try each of the specific IP address listed below
  • Apple: 10.0.1.1
  • Asus: 192.168.1.1
  • Buffalo Tech: 192.168.1.1
  • Dlink: 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1
  • Cisco/Linksys: 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1
  • Netgear: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.227
  • Other Routers May use: 192.168.1.254 or 192.168.0.254
  • Many routers will also have a sticker on the bottom of the router with the default IP address on them.
  • If none of these addresses work you may need to do some further investigation to find your router IP address.
• You will be prompted for the admin username and password.
  • You may find a sticker on the bottom of your router with the Default Admin username and password if you do try these first.
  • Most commonly the user will be admin.
  • Commonly the password will be “admin”, “password” or even no password at all (blank).
  • If these do not work you may need to search on google for the default username and password.
  • If you are still unable to access the Router’s admin page you may need to factory reset your router.
• You will need to find the Administration Section of the router admin page. This will be in different places based on manufactures and different models.
• There will be a section for passwords
  • You will need to enter the current password
  • You will need to enter the new password twice to confirm your new password
    • It is recommended that your password contains multiple Upper and Lower case letter
    • It is recommended that your password contains multiple Number (0123456789)
    • It is recommended that your password contains multiple Special Characters (~`!@#$%^&*()-=_+,.<>;:'”[{}]\|/?)
    • It is recommended that your password is longer then 8 characters (12-16 in length or longer)

WARNING!

By proceeding with a factory reset of your Wireless or Internet router you will loose all excising settings from your WIFI Name and Password. This will also remove any configured network settings such as special routing or port forwarding for specific services or applications. 

Resetting Your Router

Please always refer to your routers manufacture for specific instruction for your model of router!

Tools Needed:

• a paperclip or something small like a pin

The Process:

1. Locate your router (this may have multiple network cables or even antenna)
2. On the router you will need to find a tiny little button that maybe recessed near the the power cable
3. You will need to press and hold this button in for several different routers will behave differently while this process takes place. Some router will flash all lights and reboot and others will just reboot.
4. Once your router reboots you will need to reconfigure your router from the beginning and the these steps are different for each router manufacture and models.

We all have been their where we get to the office or get home and you just can not connect.

1.  Slow or Dropped Connections

This will most likely be noticed when you are trying to watch Netflix or do other heavy streaming applications like gaming or video calling. This can be frustrating or even be problematic. Yes once you cycle the power on your router the problems go away for a couple of days or hours.

2. Weak Wireless Signal

Another sign that you router is failing is that you are noticing that your wireless coverage is not what is use to be. When you first installed your wireless router you where getting a great signal through out your home or office.  Now you are finding you get weak or poor signal strength where you use to get good signal.

3. Devices just won’t connect

Nothing is more frustrating than getting office or home  and wanting to check your email but no connection. You check your cables and that wireless is on and still nothing so you resort to restarting the router. This fixes the problem for the time being but later in the day you have do it all again because the router locked up.

A new router may offer better range and support of more devices as well.
